Putney's Celebrity Cycling Café Hit by Wave of Brazen Bike Thefts Worth Over £50,000
Bike TheftPutneyThe Clubhouse

The Clubhouse, a popular café in Putney known for its high-end Raptor Bikes and celebrity clientele, has been targeted by a series of audacious thefts, with thieves making off with over £50,000 worth of bikes since the start of the year. Despite CCTV footage capturing the crimes, no arrests have been made, leaving the owner and customers shaken by the boldness of the criminals.

Nestled along a tranquil riverside path overlooking the River Thames, just steps away from the lively Putney High Street, lies The Clubhouse —a café that has become a beloved destination for cyclists and celebrities alike.

Known for its high-end Raptor Bikes, artisanal matcha, and delectable pastries, the business has attracted notable patrons, including tennis stars Emma Raducanu and Jack Draper. However, in recent months, The Clubhouse has faced an unwelcome surge in criminal activity, with brazen thieves targeting its expensive inventory.

Owner Bradley Wright reveals that over £50,000 worth of bikes have been stolen from his shop since the beginning of the year, with nearly every incident captured on CCTV—yet not a single perpetrator has been apprehended. We've probably had 10 thefts in the last few months, says Mr. Wright. Petty thieves frequently strike, often riding by on e-bikes and snatching a bike from the racks. Just last week, we had three such incidents.

But the crimes have escalated in severity. A few months ago, a woman was threatened with a knife after confronting two thieves who stole her bike right in front of her. The Clubhouse, which opened in May 2024, has become a hotspot for both celebrities and criminals. The café's unique blend of high-end cycling gear and gourmet offerings has made it a prime target for thieves, who often operate under the cover of darkness.

In one particularly audacious incident at the end of November, a thief used an angle grinder to force open a window in the middle of the night, making off with two bikes worth over £10,000 each—none of which were insured. The criminals, often masked with balaclavas, show no hesitation in their actions.

Video footage from November 30 shows a hooded thief, dressed entirely in black, breaking in shortly after 2 a.m. He loads two bikes onto his shoulder before riding away along the Thames toward Putney Bridge, leaving behind untouched iPads, computers, and other expensive equipment. Just weeks later, another criminal, this time wearing a grey beanie, was caught on camera sipping from a water fountain outside the café before disabling a CCTV camera and stealing another bike worth thousands.

It's no coincidence, says Mr. Wright, who is baffled by the frequency and boldness of these crimes. However, the thefts aren't limited to nighttime operations. The Clubhouse has also fallen victim to broad daylight robberies. In February, two individuals—one on an e-bike and the other on foot—stole a bike in full view of more than 10 customers.

Later, the thieves allegedly threatened a customer who pursued them with a knife. Mr. Wright recalls, A woman chased them for about 100 meters toward a little alleyway. When she followed them down there, they stopped, turned around, and showed her the knife. She came back pretty shaken up.

In another shocking incident, criminals wearing cycling helmets stormed into the café and openly stole bikes from the shelves while staff watched helplessly from behind the bar. One thief, masked with a balaclava, was even filmed casually walking out of The Clubhouse carrying a bike worth nearly £10,000 with one hand. Astonishingly, a tracking device attached to the bike was later detected in Bulgaria just eight hours after the theft. Mr. Wright explains that this has happened more than once.

We've had two or three occasions where a guy has come in wearing biking gear, yanked a bike off the stage—a £17,000 bike—and made off. Seven or eight hours later, the bike's tracking device revealed that it was being ridden around Bulgaria. So it's gone straight on a plane and it's gone. These guys know what they're doing. This was in January, it's absolutely outrageous
