Nearly half a million Casely Wireless Portable Power Banks are being recalled due to a serious fire and burn hazard, with updated reports including one death and a severe incident on an airplane. Consumers are urged to stop using the devices immediately and seek a free replacement.
A significant recall has been initiated for approximately 429,200 Casely Wireless Portable Power Banks, identified by model number E33A. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has issued this urgent warning due to a serious risk of overheating, which can lead to fires and severe burn injuries, even posing a risk of death.
This recall is an expansion and continuation of a previous recall announced by the company in April 2025, highlighting the persistent and dangerous nature of this defect. The initial recall followed 51 consumer reports detailing instances where the lithium-ion batteries within the power banks overheated, expanded, or ignited while charging mobile phones. These incidents resulted in six minor burn injuries. However, since the first announcement, an alarming 28 additional reports of battery malfunctions have surfaced. These subsequent reports include a tragic death and a severe incident that occurred aboard an airplane, underscoring the critical need for immediate consumer action. Tragic incidents have been directly linked to these malfunctioning power banks. In August 2024, a 75-year-old woman in New Jersey suffered severe consequences when the power bank she was using to charge her cell phone on her lap caught fire and exploded. She sustained second and third-degree burns and tragically passed away later due to complications arising from her injuries. Further demonstrating the danger, in February 2026, a 47-year-old woman experienced a similar terrifying event on an airplane. While charging her phone with the power bank, it caught fire and exploded, causing her first-degree burns. These accounts serve as stark warnings about the potential for catastrophic failure even in common household electronic devices. The affected power banks, Casely Wireless Portable Power Banks (Model E33A), were available for purchase online through the company's website, getcasely.com, Amazon.com, and various other e-commerce platforms. Consumers could have purchased these devices between March 2022 and September 2024, with prices ranging from $30 to $70. The CPSC is strongly advising all consumers who own these recalled power banks to cease using them immediately. To facilitate a safe resolution, Casely is offering a free replacement for all affected units. Consumers are instructed to visit the company's dedicated recall page on their website, https://www.getcasely.com/pages/2025-recall, to initiate the replacement process. The online form requires consumers to provide two photographs as proof of the recalled product. The first photo should clearly show the front of the power bank with the word 'recalled' and the current date clearly written on it using a permanent marker. The second photograph must display the model number, which is typically located on the back of the power bank. By adhering to these instructions, consumers can ensure they receive a safe, replacement product and help prevent further incidents of injury or property damage.
