WEBB, Ala. - Students at Webb Elementary traded books and worksheets for game controllers after meeting their i-Ready reading and math goals. C&J Rolling Video Games brought its mobile gaming trailer to the school as an end-of-year incentive for students who hit their targets.
School leaders said the reward was designed to keep students motivated throughout the year by giving them something tangible to work toward.
“We are here today to celebrate the success of our students and all their hard work in the i-Ready program,” said Principal Reygan Woodall. “This is an incentive for our students who met their yearly goals. ”Charles Boyd, co-owner of C&J Rolling Video Games, said the mobile trailer brings an arcade-like experience directly to schools, parks and neighborhoods.
“After COVID a lot of people didn’t want to go out,” Boyd said. “This is an experience I can bring to you… I can go anywhere — I can go in your backyard, the park or the school. ” Around 60 students earned time inside the rolling game room, where they played on Xbox, Nintendo Switch and PlayStation consoles. School leaders said incentives like the game truck help reinforce the message that hard work in the classroom can pay off.
