The Spencerport Fire District held a community open house on Saturday, June 15, 2024, for its new training facility that included demonstrations on fire response and rescue, ventilation techniques, and techniques in rescuing people trapped in motor vehicle crashes using the jaws of life.
Firefighters held demonstrations on fire response and rescue, ventilation techniques used when working to extinguish a fire, and techniques in rescuing people trapped in motor vehicle crashes using hydraulic tools, known as the "jaws of life." "What you have behind me is our extrication pad that we do the extrication for different types of scenarios for vehicles, and then we have a burn building, our own burn building on this facility where we burn Class A combustibles, and next to that is our roof simulator, which has different pitches of roofs, different style roofs to give our firefighters all different types of scenarios," said Fire Chief Mitch Flagg of the Spencerport Fire District.
