Cleveland Browns News and Rumors 04/26/26: The New Normal

Browns exit draft weekend with more offense, another quarterback, a pile of forum activity, and the strange possibility that their plan made sense. It’s the OBR Daily Newswire for April 26, 2026

Look, I am not going to sit here and pretend that the Cleveland Browns exiting a draft weekend with a pile of offensive players, a quarterback room that now requires an org chart, and a fan base that is not actively searching for torches is a normal thing.

This is Browns World. Normal left the building sometime during the Clinton administration and has been sending postcards from warmer climates ever since. As weird as Browns World is, though, the team and their fans have to be happy with the near-universal praise for the Browns draft from, and, most importantly, of course, the general sense of positivity radiating from the readers and writers of this website.

The OBR is where a lot of long-time and most fervent Browns fans come to hang, and I’ve rarely seen such a high percentage of nodding, agreeable heads following a Browns draft. We can support this draft without defensiveness, and look forward to upcoming mini-camps and Training Camp with a general sense that things are headed in the right direction. After landing two inarguably first-round talents in the initial round, the Browns added two more in the second. Slam dunk.

One of the best drafts in the league. After that, the team started taking shots at players they liked, even if the draftnik community wasn’t entirely on board. Austin Barber, Parker Brailsford, and Taylen Green are all players who some could argue were steals, though others might disagree. And that’s fine.

After the first two days, you’re taking swings at more difficult pitches, and any base hits are the goal. Still, after three days of Andrew Berry sliding up, sliding down, collecting picks, spending picks, and generally treating the draft board like something other than a carnival wheel, the Browns have come out of this with an actual plan-shaped object.

We have the fullWhat you’re going to hear about in some corners of the media, almost to the exclusion of everything else, is quarterback. The Browns added Taylen Green in the sixth round, which means we now get another lap around the quarterback discourse track. Green is big, athletic, interesting, and not the sort of prospect who should cause anyone to throw away the depth chart.

He joins Shedeur Sanders, Dillon Gabriel, and the rest of the group in what the outside world will call fascinating and what Browns fans will call Tuesday. Props to those media outlets willing to squeeze “Shedeur Sanders” into a headline about the acquisition of a sixth-round developmental prospect who poses no immediate threat to Sanders’ standing.

Elsewhere, the Browns kept stacking offense, added more tight end bodies, grabbed Alabama pieces in Parker Brailsford and Justin Jefferson, and kept the boards buzzing well into the evening. Thesurvived another year without the authorities being called, as far as I know. I even joined late on Day 3, although I try to avoid that sort of thing, to try to shoehorn my beloved Buckeyes into the conversation. The gang wasn’t having any of it, and I quickly shut up.

So today is for catching our breath, reading the grades, pretending not to care about the grades, and quietly admitting that this weekend made more sense than we are emotionally prepared to process. Browns Add Dual-Threat QB Taylen Green and Tight End Joe Royer on Day 3 Browns Make 2 Trades, Make 2 Picks, Add 2 Alabama Players, Including Center, Linebacker in the 5th RoundPositive news from the world of sports and beyond...

Today, because the draft is over and we all deserve to think about something other than RAS scores for eleven seconds, science-minded humans are trying to make renewable natural gas from sewage. The jokes write themselves, and I will heroically avoid most of them. But still, as a regular reader of sports pages and consumer of sports entertainment, I’m know there’s no shortage of sewage, so turning into something useful has to be heralded.

When not wondering whether the Browns drafted enough tight ends to start their own intramural league, Barry McBride is the Publisher and Founder of the OBR and bloviates this nonsense every morning.
