ADEM has grant funds available for projects that need environmental remediation. The grant will allow the city to perform the necessary clean up with the grant instead of our funds. “The city has always been committed to doing our part for a cleaner environment,” said Randall Morris, City Manager. Morris said records show there are underground fuel tanks beneath the parking lot that is to be the future location of City Hall. The tanks need to be removed and any contaminated soil removed so that there are not any future problems on the site. There is some contaminated soil on the Meadowgold site that needs to be removed and properly disposed. Performing the work now will allow for a clean site for future development. People are also reading… The City will pay for the work and then submit the paid invoices to ADEM for reimbursement. Any costs associated with the cleanup are reimbursable. The long-term benefits of cleaning up these sites for the Dothan community will remove any environmental contaminants and provide a clean site for future development. “Anytime we can correct an environmental concern on a future development site makes the site more attractive for development,” said Morris.
