The Northeast Ohio Area Coordinating Agency’s (NOACA) planning and programming committee approved moving the Brook Park stadium infrastructure project to the next phase of review.

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Northeast Ohio Area Coordinating Agency ’s planning and programming committee approved moving the Brook Park stadium infrastructure project to the next phase of review. The decision represents another major step forward for the Browns ’ new stadium as the Haslam Sports Group works toward a 2029 deadline.

The project includes $70 million in road improvements around the former Ford plant site where the Haslams are building the Browns’ new domed stadium.“We feel really good. Obviously the project continues to move. It has to. It is a generational project for the region and we are very excited and happy to share the information as we gather it,” said Brook Park Mayor Edward Orcutt. Orcutt said the small city of Brook Park cannot afford $80 million worth of improvements to the highway systems, so they need approval for additional funding. The board said there are still lingering questions about traffic, including where people will park and whether taxpayer money is involved. Brook Park officials said they have answered those concerns time and time again, but the mayor admitted the timeline is tight. “Typically you have a few more years than what we have had to work on this, but over the last almost two years we have been working on this project for our highway systems there have been a lot of resources put in to that,” Orcutt said. The Haslam Sports Group said they are working with a short schedule but are still pushing toward opening in three years. “Big picture is we are really excited to continue to move forward. Marching toward that 2029 opening date for a big summer of events, concerts and then kicking off football in the fall of 2029,” a representative said. That meeting will take place in March, where the questions will likely come up again.
