Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy dismisses speculation about high-profile Labor politicians plotting to unseat Prime Minister and defends Starmer's Brexit policy.
A senior minister in Keir Starmer 's zombie Government complained today about the 'feverish' speculation he will face a leadership challenge , hours after helping his main rival Andy Burnham campaign.
In response to claims big-hitters including Mr. Burnham, Wes Streeting, and Angela Rayner were gearing up to depose the Prime Minister, Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy said they were 'froth and nonsense'. She also attacked Mr. Burnham's leadership rival, former health secretary Wes Streeting, for his 'odd' call yesterday for the UK to rejoin the EU, 10 years after the seismic vote to leave.
Ms. Nandy said Mr. Streeting risked 'reopening the Brexit wars' with his call for the country to rejoin the bloc. However, Ms. Nandy, who posted pictures on social media of herself out campaigning with Mr. Burnham, defended the Prime Minister's stance on Brexit yesterday.
She said: 'The Government that he was part of until recently has been trying to take a far more pragmatic approach to bringing us closer to Europe and repairing some of the damage that was done from a poor Brexit deal to people's living standards in parts of the country like mine, rather than reopening the Brexit wars and going round back again around that track.
