Downtown Cincinnati Brawl: 5 suspects plead guilty to charges

Five of the seven suspects charged in July’s downtown brawl have changed their pleas to guilty.

Wright was originally facing aggravated riot and aggravated robbery charges after a complaint says he ripped a victim’s necklace off while he was being assaulted by at least four other people.

The 32-year-old suspect then put the necklace in his pocket and filmed the rest of the violent attack that took place on Fourth and Elm streets, the complaint said. Matthews was indicted on two counts of aggravated riot, three counts of assault and three counts of felonious assault, court records show. A Cincinnati police detective said Matthews coordinated the attack downtown and then assaulted the victims.

Cincinnati police identified Matthews as the one who was “punching and stomping on victim with his hands and feet” in one of the viral videos, according to a complaint. The 39-year-old is also accused of dragging another person who was unconscious into the middle of the street and punching and assaulting a victim, another complaint says. Several arrests have been made in connection with the beating. He pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated rioting and one count of attempted felonious assault. He will be sentenced June 10. In that case, alone, Matthews is facing conspiring to distribute fentanyl and cocaine, possession with the intent to distribute cocaine and fentanyl, and operating a premises to traffic narcotics.

The 26-year-old was identified in one of the videos as the woman in white stomping and kicking the male victim who was already on the ground. Devaughn was arrested by Cincinnati Police’s Fugitive Apprehension Unit in August. A capias warrant says Devaughn failed to follow the conditions of her electronic monitoring unit on Christmas Eve, Christmas and Dec. 26 when she was found at a liquor store in Kentucky. Merriweather pleaded guilty to aggravated riot and aggravated assault. He was previously indicted on two counts of aggravated riot, three counts of assault and three counts of felonious assault.

Like Matthews, Merriweather is also believed to have coordinated the attack, a Cincinnati police detective previously testified.

“As to Merriweather’s involvement in this, we believe he coordinated this with Mr. Matthews. He walked up to him on the video, whispered something to him and then strategically placed himself behind the victim as the assault began,” the detective said. He will be sentenced May 19. Prosecutors say he is facing a potential of 36 months in jail and a $10,000 fine. Vernon could face 210 days behind bars and have to pay a potential fine of $1,250.

Her sentencing is May 19. Holly said her attacker, identified as Patrick Rosemond, might have caused damage that she will deal with for the rest of her life. Both suspects are facing two counts of aggravated rioting, three counts of assault and three counts of felonious assault. Rosemond is accused of punching a woman in the face, knocking her unconscious, a criminal complaint says.

Prosecutors previously said he assaulted “each and every single victim in a brutal and vicious fashion. ” Rosemond’s lawyer filed a motion to withdraw from the case. The court is working to appoint him a new attorney. As for Kittle, he is still incompetent to stand trial.
