The San Antonio native and director of the 'Spy Kids' movies is launching Brass Knuckle Films, a new approach to filmmaking that asks investors to pitch ideas.

San Antonio native and ' Spy Kids ' director Robert Rodriguez is creating a bevy of new action movies, and he's asking fans to join him. The filmmaker, known for taking on multiple behind-the-scenes roles on his projects, is launching Brass Knuckle Films , which invites cinephiles to invest money in film projects and participate in the movie making process.

An investment includes an opportunity to pitch a movie idea directly to Rodriguez. In a video on the company's website, Rodriguez said this new approach to filmmaking will get movies off the ground more efficiently than the Hollywood big-budget route. 'On the production front, I'm known for being the most efficient filmmaker in the business, so we'll be able to cut out the middle men and red tape that leaves movies trapped in development hell,' Rodriguez said. Each investor will have the opportunity to submit a movie concept, which will be reviewed by Rodriguez’s team at his Austin-based Troublemaker Studios for originality, feasibility and market potential, the company said. From these submissions, 10 finalists will be selected to pitch their idea directly to Rodriguez, who will personally choose one to be developed into a full-length feature as a Brass Knuckle Films production. The selected investor will get to share the movie profits, including from any franchise projects that come from the film. 'I'll pick a winner as one of the projects we develop as part of the slate, and then you'll have a shot at not just being a fan, an investor and a partner, but also a creator of a franchise with me,' Rodriguez said in a video on the Brass Knuckle Films website.
