The PGA Tour is exploring a potential shift in the Tour Championship format to a bracket-style competition, aiming to enhance fan engagement and competition.

The PGA Tour is reportedly considering revising its frequently criticized Tour Championship format to a bracket-style competition. This year, the FedEx Cup leader enters the season-ending Tour Championship at East Lake in Atlanta with a two-stroke advantage over the field. Last summer, the Tour launched its Fan Forward initiative to gather feedback, and one suggestion included modifying the format.

The Athletic proposed a bracket-style format with head-to-head play, potentially involving stroke play or match play, and the possibility of some players receiving byes in early rounds. The Tour Championship concludes the three-tournament FedEx Cup playoffs, starting with 70 players at the FedEx St. Jude Championship, reducing to 50 for the BMW Championship, and finally 30 for the final event. While the number of players is unlikely to change, the competition style is under deliberation among stakeholders, including television partners and corporate sponsors
