Alien: Earth Finale Reveals Shocking Truth About Atom Eins
Alien: EarthAtom EinsBoy Kavalier

The finale of Noah Hawley's Alien: Earth delivers a major twist regarding Atom Eins, revealing his true synthetic nature and unveiling his origin story tied to Boy Kavalier's past, reshaping the dynamic between the characters and hinting at future developments.

Noah Hawley's Alien: Earth is not only filled with plenty of gory xenomorph action, along with the debuts of other terrifying aliens, but a lot more"human" characters, too. The Lost Boys, led by Wendy , are at the center of the action, along with Wendy's brother Joe .

The antagonists are as abundant as the protagonists, with the trillionaire genius creator of Prodigy, Boy Kavalier , being the one everyone should fear due to his power and brazenness. Beside him, throughout every episode of Alien: Earth so far, has been his right-hand man, Atom Eins . Eins hasn't had much to do in the plot, but in the season finale, it's revealed that he's actually a synthetic. This isn't the biggest twist in a franchise filled with them, but Atom Eins' surprising origin story actually makes Boy Kavalier even more of a threat. Atom Eins Has Been More of a Background Character in 'Alien: Earth' Very early on, we're drawn to Boy Kavalier as the character to pay attention to. He's the one with the money and the bravado because he owns one of the megacorporations that controls this entire world. At such a young age, he's already become a trillionaire thanks to his company, Prodigy, and he's at the cutting edge of technology with inventions like the Lost Boys, which requires transplanting the consciousness of dying children into synthetic adult bodies. Boy Kavalier repeatedly proves that there's nothing he won't do in the name of his own curiosity, and there, through it all, is Atom Eins. He's the opposite of Boy Kavalier, a much older man standing rigidly in his suit while barely showing emotion or saying much at all. He's there to be Boy Kavalier's sounding board, or to suggest that his boss might want to evacuate or change tactics when shit goes down; in fact, his most notable moment comes when he fires Arthur in Episode 6 for refusing to wipe Nibs' memory. In an interview with Collider, Edmondson described Atom Eins as"a sort of father figure, but on the other, a kind of dedicated and rather malicious enforcer of things he wants to happen." But just why would Atom Eins be so paternal to such an unlikable person? There must be more going on behind the scenes — and Alien: Earth's finale confirms the true nature of his relationship with Boy Kavalier. The 'Alien: Earth' Finale Reveals That Atom Eins Is a Synthetic At first, Atom Eins feels like he's only a part of Alien: Earth's story to end up as fodder, but the finale reveals that he is actually a synthetic. This, in itself, is a standard twist for the franchise, which has more than once liked to show us that the character we thought was a human isn't so flesh and blood after all. Atom Eins does have some physical power, which he shows off when he easily knocks Joe and Wendy aside, but their fight scene emphasizes just how advanced Wendy is when she's able to use her power to stop Atom Eins in his tracks and freeze him, because, like the Prodigy cameras and locks she can control, he's only technology in the shape of a man after all. However, the fact that Wendy doesn't kill him means we certainly haven't seen the last of Atom Eins. As the finale ends, he, along with his boss, Morrow , Kirsh , and Dame Sylvia , is being kept in a cell by the Lost Boys. If Atom Eins is alive and contained, it's for a reason. In a potential Season 2, he might escape and play more of a prominent role than the silent assistant — but just what will Atom Eins be capable of when he's unleashed? Atom Eins' Origin Story Changes Our Perception of Boy Kavalier in 'Alien: Earth' However, even bigger than the twist that Atom Eins is a synthetic is his origin story. This is revealed in a fantastic, sinister monologue near the end of the Alien: Earth finale, where Boy Kavalier tells all to the Lost Boys about his past. He divulges that, when he was a little boy, his daddy was a drunk. While Boy Kavalier dismisses his father as the last in a long line of troglodyte mouthbreathers, he refers to himself as a miracle born,"a genius destined to rule the world." Humble he is not. Boy Kavalier confesses he was worried that his jealous dad might kill him before this happened, so at just six years old, he built a machine — his first synthetic — in the shape of a distinguished grown man."One day, my daddy came home from the factory and there was my synth sitting on the sofa." Without divulging a name, that synth's identity is revealed by a separate shot of Atom Eins standing in the shadows behind Joe."And that was the end of daddy," Kavalier tells his audience. He doesn't need to specify that he built a synth capable of killing his own father, but the story doesn't end there; that night, young Boy Kavalier and his synth moved away, and Atom Eins became his new father, one that he could control. This was necessary because, as Boy Kavalier says,"No one's gonna give a six-year-old his own empire, so I just made myself a figurehead." Slightly is stunned that a child killed his own father, but, as Boy Kavalier adds, that's not the point. All he cares about is his business. There is no remorse in his actions, only insight, so the Lost Boys can see who they are messing with. Unlike Atom Eins or the Lost Boys, Boy Kavalier is a mortal man. Throughout the season, his pompous attitude and nonchalance toward anyone else's life have had viewers on edge in anticipation of his inevitable demise. It almost happens in the finale, when he comes face-to-face with the xenomorph, only for Wendy to sic it on Prodigy's soldiers instead. The reason Hawley doesn't deliver what could be Alien: Earth's most satisfying of deaths is because this is only the beginning for this trillionaire and his most unwaveringly loyal synth. As Wendy declares, Boy Kavalier is not a spoiled brat in over his head, but an underestimated puppet master who is capable of anything without a second thought.
