ALEA reports seven boating accidents, no fatalities, and 12 deaths in traffic crashes over the 2025 4th of July weekend.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency ( ALEA ) responded to numerous traffic crashes and boating incidents during the 2025 Fourth of July holiday weekend, according to data made public on Thursday. From Thursday, July 3, to Sunday, July 6, ALEA 's Marine Patrol Division investigated seven boating accidents . Fortunately, no boating deaths were reported. However, one non-boating death, a drowning, occurred on Saturday at Chickasabogue Creek in Mobile County.

ALEA officials stated that the most prevalent violations observed during boating safety checks included failing to register or properly display registration, operating a vessel without a license, insufficient personal flotation devices, improper navigation lights, careless operation, and the failure to use an emergency cut-off switch. Troopers also issued a total of 165 warnings related to Alabama's newest boating safety laws.Meanwhile, ALEA's Highway Patrol Division responded to 314 traffic collisions that resulted in 155 injuries and 12 fatalities. These fatal crashes occurred in Dekalb, Mobile, Dale, Greene, Blount, Cleburne, and Cullman counties. 'Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives during the holiday weekend,' said ALEA Secretary Hal Taylor. 'Every life lost is a tragic reminder of why our mission is critical. At ALEA, we are committed to doing everything within our power to prevent such tragedies through education, enforcement and tireless dedication to public safety on both the waterways and roadways.' Enforcement and patrol efforts on the state's roadways yielded thousands of citations and some arrests. 'While our Troopers are encouraged that there were no boating fatalities and that most Alabamians celebrated responsibly, 12 lives lost on our roadways is 12 too many,' said Col. Jonathan Archer, director of ALEA’s Department of Public Safety. 'The mission of ALEA remains the same—protecting life, property and the motoring public.
