DOTHAN, Ala. -A man court records show is suspected of setting a fire that critically injured his wife and two children was booked into jail early Friday on other charges.
Jail records show Phillip Aaron Gore, 44. faces charges he violated a protection order, attempted to elude law enforcement, obstructed government operations and resisted arrest. Further details of the arrest were not immediately available. Court records show Gore’s wife, Kelley Gore, filed a Protection from Abuse request on April 17 — three days before the fire — alleging Gore choked her, threatened her and damaged property belonging to her and her children, ages 11 and 10.
The family’s home in Kinsey burned the following Monday night. Kelley Gore and the children were pulled to safety and taken to a Birmingham hospital. Family acquaintances said one of the children has since been released but the other child and Kelley Gore remain hospitalized. News4 could not independently verify those conditions.
Five days after the fire Christopher Betsill, Kelley Gore’s former husband and the children’s father, asked a judge to withhold life insurance payments to Gore in the event one of the victims died. In the filing, Betsill referred to Gore as an “arson suspect,” though investigators have not publicly named him a suspect in the fire. It’s not clear how authorities believe Gore violated the protection order which contained several stipulations, with Kinsey officers apparently making the arrest.
