Studio Gaga and Dark Horse Comics announce the English release of Du-ran-ki, a short-run manga series by the late Kentaro Miura, in September 2025. The volume will include bonus concept artwork and insight into Miura's creative process.
Kentaro Miura's dark fantasy manga masterpiece, Berserk, is one of the most popular and enduring titles in manga history. Having begun publication in 1989, Miura continued work on the series until his tragic and untimely passing in May 2021.
Since then, Miura's own Studio Gaga, with the help of Kouji Mori, have continued production on Berserk based on notes the artist left behind. When taking on the series, Studio Gaga canceled all other projects, including one the studio was working on directly with Kentaro Miura. Finally, nearly four years since its completion, Du-ran-ki by Kentaro Miura and Studio Gaga will be officially released in English by Dark Horse Comics on September 16, 2025. Following the author's death, it was decided by Studio Gaga and editors that work on the series would cease, and its brief six-chapter run was collected in a single manga volume. Now, that volume will be hitting stores in the U.S., and is set to include bonus concept artwork, as well as other materials which give insight into Miura's creative process. Du-ran-ki Is Coming to the U.S. for the First Time The Lesser Known Manga by Kentaro Miura Is Getting an English Release Du-ran-ki began its brief serialization in September 2019, and continued releasing chapters monthly until pausing in May 2020. When Miura passed away a year later, Studio Gaga decided to go no further with the series, likely because any remaining staff were assigned to shift focus onto Berserk. Du-ran-ki's story was crafted by Miura and illustrated by the manga studio. Given the similarities in visual style between the two series, it was long rumored that Du-ran-ki came about as a way to train Miura's assistants for eventual work on Berserk. Related Berserk Deserves an Anime Comeback, And I Know the Perfect Team to Do It Despite the manga's legendary success, Berserk has never had a proper anime adaptation, but there's one creative team who would be perfect for it. Posts 1 The series follows Usumgal, the androgynous main character, through a mythological world on the interstice between god and human. Du-ran-ki pulls from ancient Greek and Mesopotamian mythology, and takes its protagonist's name from Usumgallu, a horned snake of Akkadian mythology. The series unfortunately ends in the middle of a confrontation, as Miura passed before the story could advance any further. Studio Gaga Is Keeping Berserk Alive Miura's Assistants Have Taken Up the Mantle of Continuing Berserk Close Following Miura's passing and the eventual cancelation of Du-ran-ki, the fate of Berserk was largely unknown. However, a little over a year later in June 2022, Berserk would resume serialization by Studio Gaga, under the supervision of Miura's long-time friend Kouji Mori. Chapter releases have been somewhat sporadic, though are becoming more frequent as of late. Chapter #379 was released on February 14, 2025, and #380 is scheduled for February 28, two weeks later. Berserk's continuation likely came at the cost of the short-lived Du-ran-ki, though fans will finally be able to experience another of Kentaro Miura's stories in English for the first time later in 2025. The series spans only six chapters, but is the perfect collection piece for any fans of manga master's work. Berserk is set to continue without its legendary creator at the helm, and fans won't want to miss out on the potential final arc of Guts' story.Berserk Berserk is a dark fantasy manga series by Kentaro Miura, first published in 1989. Set in a medieval Europe-inspired world, it follows Guts, a lone mercenary, and his struggle against demonic forces after his betrayal by Griffith, leader of the Band of the Hawk.
