Ariean Fabrizio Colton was dragged around 100 years by a bear near her property in Kenai.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Sunday marks eight months since a Kenai woman’s life forever changed in a blink of an eye after being attacked by a bear near her home. On Aug. 26, 2025, Ariean Fabrizio Colton was doing what she said was her normal morning routine — waking up early and going for a run — before heading to work.

“I don’t remember much,” Colton said. “I know I started my watch to start the run. And after that, it’s — I’m sure it happened right after I just hit start.” Troopers told Alaska’s News Source in September 2025 that they believed a bear had come from a nearby property and dragged Colton about 100 yards down the road to another property. Colton said she suffered injuries to the tips of her spine, hip and back, had road rash from being dragged, suffered broken ribs, had a traumatic brain injury on the left side of her brain and had a brain bleed on the right side. “I am blind, blindish in this eye,” Colton said as she pointed to her left eye. “So, the visual is impaired and I’ve had a lot of reconstruction on my and just how, yeah, everything is placed. They’ve done pretty good.” Following the attack, Colton spent a month in the hospital in Anchorage. She has undergone surgery at the Mayo Clinic, she said. In total, she has had two surgeries and is undergoing her third in a few weeks. Outside of the hospital stays, she said, she has spent much of her time at doctor appointments, occupational therapy and other therapy. “That’s one thing I didn’t realize that when you go through a trauma, it’s the people all around you go through it as well,” Colton said. “We were working on our mental health and just being there for each other. And they’re doing pretty well. Just walking outside, I think is hard for all of us, but we’re working on just enjoying the outdoors and trying to make it through. “Kind of the motto in our family is the 101st yard,” Colton said. “I was just able to get up and my family and my kids, my husband, they really pushed me through and I’m just, I’m just blessed to be here, and I just want to be here for them as well.” With the mantra in mind, Colton is now turning to social media to share her story on her Instagram platform “Ariean’s 101st Yard” as she documents her recovery and survival. “I just really want to encourage women ... and other people like scars and the way you look on your face is not really what, it’s not the true beauty that we all have,” Colton said. “Just being kind and reaching out to people and just connecting with people is something that I just want to accomplish and be able to just help people and talk to them and yeah, it’s not about our looks, it’s just about how we spread kindness and joy.”25 dead dogs found in Mat-Su residence, triggering animal cruelty probe
