The report said the blast was accidental and caused by a propane explosion in the home’s basement.
During an interview with a Clermont County Sheriff’s Office detective, the HVAC technician said he fixed everything in the home, but when he turned on the furnace, everything blew up In audio provided to FOX19 NOW from the State Fire Marshal, the detective asked the HVAC technician if he smelled gas at the time.
“So, at the actual location there was about 30 or 40 cats living in the house,” the technician told the detective. “The carpet was hard and sticky. It was so hard to smell anything over the smell of ammonia. It was burning my nostrils. It was so bad.”A State Fire Marshal’s office investigator said that based on experience, training and education, witness observations, and information at the time of the investigation and scene examination, the cause of the explosion was determined to be “from the ignition of fugitive gas within the structure.” The investigator said the furnace cycling in the “on position” would be considered a competent source of ignition for the catastrophic event.
