LORAIN COUNTY, Ohio — A Lorain County courtroom erupted in violence June 12, 2025, when a man convicted of attempted murder Andrew Davison had just received his sentence when he began swinging at law enforcement officers.
“He turned around and said ‘you’re going to have to kill me, I ain’t going to jail,’ and the fight was on,” said Deputy Jeff Smith of the Lorain CountyWhen Davison swung at him an Elyria police sergeant intervened.“Sticking his fingers in — in my mind — trying to literally pull his eyeballs out of his skull,” said Sheriff Jack Hall.“I ended up on the bottom of the pile for a while and I think both of those guys together weighed like 500 pounds,” Smith said. “They came down on my chest, and I had a cracked sternum and four fractured ribs.”Hall said he wants to prevent similar incidents. “Tempers have a tendency to rise. Courtroom security is vital,” Hall said.Investigators conduct a risk assessment on each inmate prior to court to determine who should wear it.An officer controls the device remotely and can warn the prisoner with an audible tone before activating the eight second electrical shock.“He was very compliant,” said Lt.
