GEAUGA COUNTY , Ohio - An 80-year-old Chagrin Falls man is accused of shooting another man at the dog park in Bainbridge Township earlier this month.
Emmanuel MathewsMathews pleaded not guilty at his arraignment in Chardon Municipal Court on April 22 and posted bond. Bainbridge Township police officers said the victim, a 55-year-old Auburn Township man, was shot in the hip; however, family members told 19 News he was actually shot twice in the back and had multiple “life-saving surgeries. ” After the shooting, police said Mathews drove away from the dog park, but was taken into custody several blocks from the scene.
Mathews’ attorney told 19 News the men had a “political argument” before the shooting and his client fired in self-defense.
