A large backdrop almost hit Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro and at least four other people while he was speaking at an event this week. The backdrop toppled toward Shapiro and costumed Revolutionary War reenactors -- including two portraying Benjamin Franklin and Betsy Ross -- during a public event promoting the state's America250 celebration. The incident happened on Thursday as Shapiro was announcing details about a statewide concert series to mark the nation's upcoming 250th anniversary of independence. The falling structure narrowly missed Shapiro and the reenactors, interrupting his remarks with a crash."We are all fine. Everyone is fine," the woman portraying Ross said in the video. Shapiro had been unveiling the "Commonwealth Concert Series," a lineup of free performances planned across Pennsylvania in the lead-up to July 4, 2026, the country’s semiquincentennial celebration.
