GENEVA COUNTY, Ala. - Embattled Geneva County Circuit Clerk Ashley Powell , who was relieved of her duties amid a state investigation into possible missing funds from her office, has retained a well-respected Alabama attorney.
A judge ordered Powell to turn in her keys and barred her from the clerk’s office while state agents probe missing funds. “Presiding Judge Filmore decided it was prudent for Mrs. Powell to be away from the office on paid leave while we work with the Attorney General’s office to resolve any discrepancies in the county clerk’s accounts,” Beck said.According to his biography, Beck spends time defending public officials ranging from those at the county level to the governor.
