A Lorain County woman is suing Case Western Reserve University — and a prominent surgeon — after her husband died while having three of his teeth extracted.

MEDINA, Ohio -A Lorain County woman is suing Case Western Reserve University — and a prominent surgeon — after her husband died in the dental chair. In court filings, attorneys for both defendants; Dr.

Faisal Quereshey and Case Western, maintain their clients are not at fault. Now 19 Investigates has found Quereshey’s facing a wrongful death lawsuit — and possible discipline by the Ohio State Dental Board — because of what happened in August of 2023. The medical/dental negligence―wrongful death lawsuit claims Quereshey caused the death of 48-year-old Matthew Miller during a procedure to have three of his teeth pulled at theThe Board alleges Quereshey, “assigned a research fellow who is not licensed to practice dentistry in Ohio to take the clinical role of dental assistant.” Quereshey’s attorney will have a chance to argue on his client’s behalf when the case goes before the Board next month. The lawsuit alleges the student attended CWRU’s School of Dental Medicine in Cleveland where Quereshy is listed on theirIn court filings, CWRU has denied Miller was under their care and, therefore, wasn’t at fault. The Board claims Miller was morbidly obese – with a high risk that he could stop breathing during the procedure – and his condition demanded a full evaluation by a physician prior to the surgery.“I deny people all the time,” said Kilander. At Kilander’s practice, he does everything from routine dental work to general cosmetic and implant dentistry. He also performs complicated surgeries in his Lakewood office — when he does, he says he takes precautions. She didn’t talk about Quereshey’s case either. She says each time she’s called to surgery; she brings life-saving equipment that can fit right inside her SUV. “We’re also prepared for any emergency just like a hospital is,” said Jedacek. “We just bring it in smaller containers.”It states while administering anesthesia, Quereshy gave Miller medications, “one after the other without any pause between administration to assess effectiveness and then, within minutes, placing a throat pack and starting surgery.”According to the Board, Quereshey, “failed to give Miller reversal agents to counter the narcotics and benzodiazepines” that he used to put him to sleep. The lawsuit states Miller spent the next four days on life-support at Medina Hospital before he died August 8. The Board maintains Miller’s death was caused by, “acute hypoxic respiratory failure as a result of procedural sedation.” According to health journals, this type of respiratory failure occurs when the body doesn’t receive enough oxygen.“I have advised Dr. Quereshy not to comment on pending legal matters, and therefore we are declining your request for an interview. Additionally, I would caution against reporting that the Dental Board has made any “findings.” The allegations in the Board’s Notice of Opportunity are just that, allegations. These allegations have not been proven or established as fact." Gannon’s website describes him as an experienced trial lawyer who specializes in medical and dental malpractice claims.Quereshy’s hearing in Columbus is scheduled to begin October 22 and could last through October 28.Avon contractor indicted for schemes totaling nearly $3MWATCH: Guardians prepare for Wild Card showdown with Tigers
