On Tuesday, a King County judge accepted the 77-month prison sentence that was recommended by prosecutors and Pate's defense attorney. “I would just like to apologize to everybody involved," Pate told Judge Tanya L. Thorp before being sentenced. As part of the plea agreement, Pate admitted he 'maliciously and intentionally and because of perception of the race of a person did cause physical injury' to a victim.“With this hate crime and with any hate crime, it doesn’t only the individual victim," said Casey McNerthney, a spokesperson for the King County Prosecuting Attorney's Office. "It affects anyone who identifies like them and wonders could that be my house? Could I be next? And we want them to see the result here, in court today, too.” Pate is one of six defendants in connection to the 2023 robberies. At the time of charging, the suspects faced charges including robbery, burglary, theft, and weapons charges. According to the charges, police found a ledger in Tubb's house with a list of more than 100 addresses, including several that were burglarized.Pate's 77-month prison sentence will be followed by 18 months of community custody. He previously served a term in prison in connection to a 2012 shooting in Tacoma.
