Alleged Victims of Doctor Abuse Accuse Military of Failing Them

Dozens of patients say they were abused by an Army gynecologist in one of the largest cases of alleged sexual misconduct in military history. Alleged victims told us they weren't given access to necessary services, and there's a new push to change that, as advocacy groups fear a further erosion of essential services.Three women told us similar stories after visiting Army OB-GYN Dr. Blaine McGraw on Fort Hood."I cried for probably a good hour," one of the women told us, after Army investigators told her McGraw had violated her trust. Three women sat down with Spotlight on America to talk about their experience with Dr. Blaine McGraw "It was a picture of me postpartum a few days after I was in the ICU, it was a short shot of my face and my breast," she told us, saying seeing the picture was hard for her to comprehend."They said, 'your doctor was recording you,'" she said. Army gynecologist Maj. Blaine McGraw has been charged with 54 counts of indecent visual recording after allegedly taking video of patients during medical exams at Darnall Army Medical Center at Fort Hood, Texas.{ }He remains jailed pending a military hearing, but alleged victims say they were given no help after receiving the shocking news. "They didn't give me anything but that little paper pamphlet," one said. "And apparently to them, that's sufficient."Another said she felt "dismissed" and like the military didn't care or want to hear about what happened., a human rights organization that's provided free legal support to 1,000 survivors of military sexual assault, and 29,000 hours of pro bono representation.Nancy Parrish told us about how Protect Our Defenders is working to help survivors of military sexual assault announcement , he directed the review to "scrub it clean, cut duplication and bureaucracy," adding "no more moral ambiguity" and said, "no more distractions."It's unclear what that review will entail, and the military did not answer any of our questions about it. Protect Our Defenders worries that it could "further erode guardrails meant to protect survivors and enforce accountability." We specifically asked the military how that review will impact sexual assault cases, and to respond to claims that alleged victims of Dr. McGraw were not provided services as required by law.Advocacy groups are raising concern about the impending review of the military's legal system "We seem to be going backwards now, we need to understand that one in four women experience sexual assault during their term in service," Parrish said. "It's a remarkable, astounding number. Tens of thousands of women who volunteer to serve this country are sexually assaulted within four years of service."Alleged victims of Dr. McGraw told us they feel "disregarded" and reported that they are struggling to trust people, especially medical providers.An attorney believed to be representing Dr. McGraw did not return our request for comment.
