Along with claiming a third 2A crown in four years, Ariton’s state title victory on Tuesday means that teams from the Wiregrass have won Blue Maps in baseball in four of the last five seasons.
JACKSONVILLE, Ala. - The Ariton Purple Cats baseball team have become very familiar in recent years with being called state champions and lifting the Blue Map high in the air, and that familiarity will do them well once again in 2026.
After dropping their first game on Monday in the 2A title series to Mars Hill Bible at Choccolocco Park in Oxford, the Cats bounced with an outstanding two-game performance on Tuesday at Jim Case Stadium in Jacksonville to claim their third state crown in four years. The fantastic effort needed from Ariton on day two of action from northeast Alabama was set up by a tough outing the previous day, with Mars Hill taking a 4-0 win in game 1 of the title series and holding the Purple Cats to just three hits.
Game 2 on Tuesday at Jacksonville State University would see superstar pitcher Addison Senn take the mound for Ariton, and he would put on a top-tier complete game performance, allowing just two hits and one run while striking out 13 batters. The 6-1 victory for the Cats on the offensive end would be bolstered by big hits from Brodie Lowery and Bryson Rhett in the third and sixth innings respectively to bring in two runs a piece.
Easton Kilpatrick would also add a pair of RBIs after taking a hit by pitch in the third and grabbing a sac fly in the sixth. Game 3 would then see Phillip Hicks on the mound for the Purple Cats, as he went six innings, allowing two runs and six hits while striking out four.
The series deciding seven innings looked like more of a back and forth affair, with Ariton scoring in the top of the first and second innings off hits from Senn and Pierce Gill, while Mars Hill would tie the game both times with scores in the bottom of the first and sixth innings. The seventh inning would create the deciding moments for Ariton, as Senn, Rhett and Asa Thompson all brought home a run a piece and then Gill finished the game on the mound with two strikeouts and just one hit allowed to finish the game and claim the all-important 5-2 victory.
