Animal protective services are currently investigating a case of animal cruelty that left one dog abandoned on the 101 Freeway . The incident occurred around 2:35 p.m. on Aug. 3 between the Melrose Avenue and Santa Monica Boulevard exits.
A witness reported that a 2000 Chrysler Sebring two-door convertible came to a near-complete stop on the busy freeway and tossed the small dog out from an open passenger door. The suspect or suspects could face felony charges for intentional animal cruelty, a $20,000 fine and jail time, according to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Los Angeles. The brown-and-white dog is possibly a Terrier-mix, and was last seen running southbound on the freeway between cars.
