Trooper placed on leave as state investigators look into Wednesday afternoon shooting, per protocol.

HOUSTON, Alaska - An Alaska State Trooper discharged their firearm Wednesday afternoon after a woman exited a Houston residence armed with a gun and pointed it at officers who had arrived to arrest her on a warrant, authorities said.

The incident occurred around 3:15 p.m. when two troopers responded to a residence in Houston to serve an arrest warrant on an adult woman for terroristic threatening in the second degree, according to the Alaska Department of Public Safety. The warrant stemmed from multiple 911 calls in which the woman allegedly made explicit threats to kill law enforcement officers.

Troopers used a patrol vehicle’s public address system to order the woman to exit the residence with her hands visible and empty. She refused, then emerged from the home armed with a firearm and pointed it at a trooper, officials said. The trooper fired at the woman, who retreated back inside the residence. Additional troopers responded to the scene and deployed a drone to assess the situation.

Authorities determined the woman was no longer armed and no longer posed an active threat before entering the residence. Inside, troopers located the woman suffering from minor injuries. She was transported to a Mat-Su area hospital for medical treatment. Her name has not been released.

In accordance with Department of Public Safety policy, the trooper who discharged their firearm was placed on seven days of administrative leave. The trooper’s name is expected to be released within 72 hours. The Alaska Bureau of Investigation has opened an investigation into the incident. Upon its completion, the case will be independently reviewed by the Alaska Office of Special Prosecutions.
