CLEVELAND, Ohio - This week marks 13 years since three Cleveland women, two who were kidnapped as teenagers, trapped and tortured for nearly a decade, were found alive on May 6, 2013.
Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight were all kidnapped by Ariel Castro of Cleveland between 2002 and 2004.13 years after their escape Gina’s cousin Sylvia Colon says today feels like any other day, proof of healing.
“In those 3,000 plus days we learned what we think families need not just from law enforcement but basic resources,” Colon said. “How to navigate and collaborate with law enforcement, how to make a flyer, how to get it out on social media,” Colon said. “We’re working on a case right now where we’re putting together a search party. ” Colon wants to remind people to be kind to families that are searching for loved ones.
