Investigators report the crash was caused when a gray Chrysler, traveling southbound on Alameda, ran a red light with its headlights off and T‑boned a white Buick that was traveling eastbound on West Orem through a green light. The impact triggered a chain-reaction collision that struck three other vehicles stopped at the intersection. Three people inside the white Buick were killed. Two were pronounced dead at the scene; a third, who was ejected from the vehicle, later died at a hospital. The driver of the Chrysler was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition; police say his blood alcohol level was well over the legal limit. Houston police have upgraded the driver’s charge from DWI to intoxication manslaughter after investigators reviewed surveillance video and toxicology results. Authorities say the video shows the Chrysler driving without headlights before running the red light. “We want to keep the streets of Houston safe,” a police official said. “There are ride-share options and other safe ways to get home. If you plan to drink, make sure you have a safe ride, so you don’t put other people at risk,” said HPD SGT. Rebecca Dallas. Police continue to investigate the crash. They are asking anyone with information or additional video of the incident to contact Houston Police.Abandoned Homes Still Haunt Houston Neighborhoods | Here’s Why3.5 million Texans will not get food stamps next month if government shutdown continuesTexans' Aireontay Ersery on his love for HalloweenTHANK YOU HOUSTON! $60K raised for those impacted by shutdown and we're not done yetHarris County will become home to nation’s largest flood rescue training facilityHouston drivers brace for I-10 White Oak Bayou ProjectFeds ordered to pay for SNAP as millions of Texans face cuts during government shutdownHouston’s Halloween Forecast + Major I-10 Construction UpdateCool, Crisp Air Just in Time for Halloween in Houston“‘This is bigger than Kenneth’: families demand answers as Houston bayou deaths remain unexplained“‘This is bigger than Kenneth’: families demand answers as Houston bayou deaths remain unexplained5-year-old with autism left outside Atascocita school, found in trafficThe man accused of hitting Roda Osman in the face with brick speaks outMeals on Wheels services being limited across Houston due to loss in federal fundingResources to get you back on your feet as many Texans face layoffsHeavy police presence in BaytownWhat is 'penny rounding?' | Breaking down how the U.S. Treasury is shifting how change is handledWhat is 'penny rounding?' | Breaking down how the U.S. Treasury is shifting how change is handledSingle mother loses life savings in Houston food truck investmentCourt weighs whether complaint against expert impacts AJ Armstrong’s murder convictionHouston City Council approves $16 million ‘superhub’ for homeless despite neighborhood pushbackHouston’s viral ‘Brick Lady’ found guilty in GoFundMe theft schemeFast-moving fire swept through Houston apartment; residents jump from windowsKPRC 2 helping feed Houston families with food driveTexans safety Jalen Pitre helps out at Salvation Army!Where does Hurricane Melissa rank for longest running category 5 hurricanes?
