A study with 195 participants found that adding baxdrostat to standard care lowered systolic blood pressure by 8.1 mm Hg compared to placebo, resulting in a 5% reduction. The drug also significantly reduced a urine marker tied to kidney and cardiovascular risk. The study also showed safety concerns regarding high potassium levels among participants taking the drug.

An experimental medication called baxdrostat may help people with chronic kidney disease finally get stubborn high blood pressure under control. The drug, an investigational pill designed to block production of the hormone aldosterone, showed encouraging results in people facing a difficult and dangerous combination: chronic kidney disease and uncontrolled high blood pressure .

Adding baxdrostat to standard treatment lowered systolic blood pressure more than placebo and sharply reduced a urine marker tied to kidney and cardiovascular risk. The findings suggest that the drug may do more than lower blood pressure. It may also help protect the kidneys from further damage
