Police said the people who reported the vehicle stolen followed it to the area of 34th Avenue and Eureka Street. Officers tried to block in the vehicle, police said, but the suspect ran toward Bering Street, turned around and fired at officers. , one bullet struck K-9 officer Kiska, who lost a toe. Police said Mewborn was shot multiple times and hospitalized with injuries believed to be life-threatening.

Anchorage police identified the officers involved as Jesse Amelse, Parker Boydston, Jacob Ostolaza and Cameron Saloka. In the officer-involved shooting case, Mewborn’s next court dates are a discovery hearing on June 18 at 2:30 p.m. and a trial scheduling conference on July 2. Bail was set at $200,000, along with a third-party custodian, Pretrial Enforcement Division house arrest, and a no-contact order with the victim identified in court as B.C. , court records show.

Mewborn was also arraigned in a separate sexual abuse of a minor case stemming from a grand jury indictment filed Sept. 26, 2024. In that case, prosecutors charged him with two counts of second-degree sexual abuse of a minor, unlawful exploitation of a minor and possession of child pornography, according to the indictment.

The indictment alleges that between August 2022 and March 2023, Mewborn induced a child to engage in conduct depicted in recordings and engaged in sexual penetration with the child. The victim was identified in court documents only by initials, and the indictment lists the child’s date of birth as 2008. Anchorage police have said the charges followed a months-long investigation by the department’s Crimes Against Children Unit after an incident reported in February 2023.

Detectives previously said they were concerned there may be additional victims and asked anyone who believes they were victimized to contact CACU Detective Daniel Koch. Police said Mewborn worked as a rapper and DJ and had access to underage girls. In the sexual abuse case, Mewborn’s next court date is a discovery hearing Thursday at 2:30 p.m. Bail will remain as previously set at $40,000, court records show.

In a third case involving felony weapons misconduct, Mewborn faces two counts of misconduct involving weapons for being a felon in possession of a firearm, a misdemeanor drug possession charge, a felony charge of tampering with physical evidence, and two misdemeanor counts of violating conditions of release. In the weapons case, a trial-setting conference was scheduled for Wednesday, and bail will remain as set at $3,500 cash performance, along with a third-party custodian, court records show.
