According to TxDOT’s Houston District, the bridge over Interstate 69 will shut down beginning at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 30, 2026, and is not expected to reopen until Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2027. The extended closure will allow crews to demolish and fully reconstruct the bridge.Alabama Street serves as a key connection between Midtown Houston and Third Ward, prompting TxDOT to roll out a comprehensive outreach effort to keep residents and commuters informed throughout construction.From 9 p.m. Friday, May 1, through 5 a.m. Monday, May 4, 2026Northbound I-69 will be closed between State Highway 288 and Alabama Street.From 9 p.m. Friday, May 8, through 5 a.m. Monday, May 11, 2026Southbound I-69 will be closed between Polk Street and SH 288. The southbound SH 288 connector to I-69 will also be shut down. Detour routes for both drivers and pedestrians will be in place during the closure.
