Atlanta Police announced several high-profile arrests in an organized theft ring operating at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

ATLANTA, Ga. - Atlanta Police announced several high-profile arrests in an organized theft ring operating at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. If you parked your car at the airport between January 2024 and February of this year, there’s a chance members of an organized crime ring had their eye on it.

“They actually targeted very specific vehicles, it was a lot of Jeeps, Dodge Challengers, Chargers, and some GM high-end products. So, it’s not particularly targeting an individual at all, so I don’t want anyone to think they’re being targeted,” said Lt. Rodney Jones with Atlanta Police Department’sOn Thursday, police announced the arrest of three men they say are involved in the ring responsible for the theft of 96 cars; 45 from the airport and 51 from the city. Lt. Jones said Gerald Tiller, Leon Thomas, and Amar Brown allegedly stole 50 of those cars and were paid in cash for their “services” to members higher up in the organization. “The reason why we believe that they was choosing the airport because it has a large concentration of vehicles at a time and it allowed them a place to look for very specific vehicles,” said Jones. He said when they served the warrant on July 5, they found guns, drugs, thousands of dollars in cash, universal keys used to steal cars, and a Dodge Challenger that was stolen from the airport the day before. He said part of their ongoing investigation is to determine what the end goal is once these cars are stolen. Jones said they’ve recovered about 86% of the vehicles stolen from the airport, but as part of the investigation, they will let some cars go to see what happens to them. “With this investigation, it’s very comprehensive. We are using a lot of federal partners, Border Patrol has helped out as well, so you’re going to see a lot more arrests from this as we continue,” he said. Thursday’s announcement comes months after APD launched new tactics aimed at curbing auto thefts at the airport. In November, Atlanta’s police chief announced substantial changes aimed at enhancing airport security. Some of the changes called for the department to increase patrols in parking decks, including the addition of undercover officers and the use of technology. A big goal remains to reduce the number of stolen vehicles from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, which has approximately 40,000 parking spaces. Comparing the first half of 2024 to the same period in 2025, Atlanta’s police report reveals a 42% decrease in auto thefts at the airport.READ: More than 300 cars stolen from Atlanta’s airport this year For your own safety, Lt. Jones recommends taking your car to the dealership to disable the feature that allows you to use multiple keys to unlock and drive the car. Police are reminding everyone who parks at the airport to lock their car, take their keys, remove all valuables from their bag, and, if they have a firearm, secure it.ALEA reports 12 fatal traffic accidents over holiday weekendAmber Alert canceled for child kidnapped in Alabama double murder
