Comments by Donald Trump that some have interpreted as a threat to use the armed forces against political adversaries have turned up the temperature in a tense campaign and prompted Vice President Kamala Harris to call the former president a threat to democracy. Trump’s allies say Harris and her supporters are twisting his words and overreacting to rhetorical flourishes.
