) - Visitors from New Orleans are hopping off the Amtrak train and hopping on a bus to Africatown as part of the Africatown Freedom Tours . The bus waits for passengers as they come off the Amtrak train from New Orleans .
Riders get to go to a locally owned restaurant in Mobile and then visit the Heritage House in Africatown. The Heritage House exhibit is a multisensory space featuring stories and images of how Africatown came to be, covering the story of the Clotilda, the last known slave ship that illegally brought 110 men, women and children from West Africa to Mobile. Two people from New Orleans said the tour is educational. “The tour guide… found her online and we wanted to have a day out of New Orleans and Louisiana come over here and have lunch and we discovered this young lady who has taken us so graciously around the city,” said Luther Tolliver of Louisiana. “Our history has been hidden so long,” said Chiquitta Clemons Howard with Africatown Freedom Tours. “So, it’s very important for us to know this history.”Video shows University of Alabama student falling into water in SpainMan arrested in fatal shooting on Vienna Avenue, Mobile police saySouthwest Mobile County Chamber of Commerce honors community leaders at annual galaSecond arrest made in Forest Glenn Court shooting; bond set for another suspect
