Controlled delivery after intercepted package led to seizure of meth, cash and additional drugs

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - A 25-year-old Bethel woman was charged after investigators intercepted a package containing about a pound of methamphetamine and carried out a controlled delivery that led to the arrest, Alaska State Troopers said.

Krista Lynn Waskey was arrested Feb. 25 as members of the Western Alaska Alcohol and Narcotics Team worked with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, the Alaska Bureau of Investigation and the Bethel Police Department, according to AST. She was charged with third-degree misconduct involving a controlled substance, a felony. Charging documents say investigators identified a parcel heading to Bethel from California and obtained a federal search warrant to examine it. On Feb. 24, authorities executed the warrant and seized about 459 grams, roughly 1 pound, of methamphetamine from the package, according to the court filing. Investigators then arranged for the package to be delivered under law enforcement control on Feb. 25. Waskey picked it up at the Bethel post office and took it to a residence on Mission Lake Road, the charging documents say. Soon after an alert indicated the parcel had been opened, officers moved in and contacted Waskey inside the unit, according to the filing. Another suspect, identified in the charging documents as Renardo Stewart, fled by jumping from a second-story window and was not found. Troopers said investigators searched the residence and seized additional narcotics representing more than 4,500 user doses with an estimated value exceeding $550,000. Authorities also found about $20,000 in cash, troopers said. Waskey is accused of possessing methamphetamine with intent to deliver. The investigation remains ongoing, troopers said.Sand Point teen found 3 days after going missing in lake ‘It was incredibly swift’: Why an Alaska family was removed to Mexico this week, one son sent to Tacoma ICE facility Friday
