) - The Alabama Department of Corrections says it is continuing to expand its Contraband Interdiction Strategy, using advanced detection and intelligence-led operations to improve safety and security inside state prisons.
ADOC officials said a contraband incident was reported at Limestone Correctional Facility on May 2, 2026, at about 6:50 a.m. During routine entry screening, contract nurse Ashleigh Maxwell was detained after a K-9 alert, according to ADOC. ADOC narcotics agents arrested Maxwell and transported her to the Limestone County Jail, where she was charged with Promoting Prison Contraband, 1st Degree, and Illegal Possession of Prescription Medication, according to the department.
ADOC said the investigation remains ongoing and additional charges could be possible.
