Detroit, Michigan, USA, 14 January 2026, The 2027 Chevrolet Bolt electric vehicle was on display at the Detroit Auto Show. The 2027 Chevy Bolt will hit U.S. showroom floors as the least expensive EV in 2026.
The compact electric SUV starts at an MSRP of $28,995 and tops out at about $38,000. The new Bolt, due to arrive at dealers in volume in the coming months, is mostly an under-the-skin revamp of the Chevy Bolt EUV, which was discontinued in the 2023 model year. Brought back by popular demand, it is by far the bestselling General Motors EV to date. Even the most expensive, tricked-out trim of the Bolt – at around $38,000 – is still fairly cheap by 2026 EV pricing standards.GM finally fixed the Bolt’s biggest downside: charging speed. Charging jumps from a sluggish peak of 55 kW to a peak of 150 kW. Translation: you can go from 10% to 80% charge in 30 minutes under ideal conditions.You can now charge at Tesla Supercharger locations. No adapter necessary. This is huge. Tesla Superchargers are the most ubiquitous, the fastest and most reliable chargers out there.It now features a standard 11.3-inch diagonal infotainment touchscreen paired with an 11-inch diagonal digital driver cluster. A significant size boost from the 2023 Bolt.On the highest-end trims , GM’s updated Super Cruise package will be available on the Bolt later this year. Super Cruise is an ADAS that will essentially drive the car in many scenarios on most highways in the U.S. GM’s AI-backed driver assist – first introduced in 2017 – is often, which became available in 1996. In 2010, GM launched the Chevy Volt plug-in hybrid and in 2013 the all-electric Chevy Spark EV. And GM has a large stable of Chevy, Cadillac, and GMC EVs today.The 2026 Model Y is now offered as a value play with a base rear-wheel drive trim priced under $40,000. The Model Y handily beats the Bolt on range – at least by EPA rating standards. And Tesla has the most advanced vehicle AI on the market.Tesla Autopilot is included. You can upgrade to Full Self-Driving for $99 a month. FSD is considered the most advanced ADAS and can become completely autonomous in many scenarios.2026 Nissan Leaf, starting at $29,990,Includes ProPILOT Assist as standard, providing a capable lane centering and adaptive cruise system. Lane centering is a more basic driver assist system that takes over steering on highways.
