Former Congresswoman Mary Peltola announced $8.9 million in donations Monday morning, more than quadrupling the donations of her opponent Sen. Dan Sullivan, R-Alaska, as one of the most-watched races in Alaska and across the US ramps up.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Former Congresswoman Mary Peltola announced $8.9 million in donations Monday morning, more than quadrupling the donations of her opponent Sen. Dan Sullivan , R-Alaska, as one of the most-watched races in Alaska and across the US ramps up.

“Alaskans know DC isn’t working for them, and they’re ready for change,” Peltola said in a statement Monday morning. “I’m so grateful for the support we’ve received from every single borough and census area across our state, and it’s that support that will bring us to victory this November. It’s going to take all of us, but together we’ll take on the rigged system in DC that’s hurting each and every one of these communities. We are going to put Alaska first.”

The press release announcing the donations said 95.1% of the amount came from contributions $100 or less, or about $445,000 came from donations more than $100. $1.5 million came in the first 24 hours Though the Peltola campaign raised more, it has less available to spend than the Sullivan campaign. The Peltola campaign told Alaska’s News Source they have $5.6 million available on hand.

“Senator Sullivan was outraised and outspent by far-left Democrats in both of his previous races, and won them anyway,” Adams said Monday. “This race will be no different.” Alaska’s News Source reached out to a Sullivan campaign spokesperson for comment on the Peltola contributions Monday. As of publication, comment has not been returned.

Democrats are in the minority in both chambers of Congress, and flipping a seat like Alaska’s would be a key step toward reclaiming the Senate majority. Sullivan has won two six-year terms. In 2014, he defeated then-incumbent Sen. Mark Begich with 48.8% of the vote to his 45.6%, according toDemocrats argue Sullivan has not faced a truly competitive race in more than a decade.

“It’s been 12 years since he’s run a competitive race,” Lauren French, Democratic-aligned Senate Majority PAC communications director and senior advisor, said of Sullivanafter Peltola announced her candidacy. “Right now, what I’m really excited about, and have never been more optimistic about, is the Alaska comeback.”

“I’m running for the U.S. Senate because I’ve seen firsthand what many Alaskans already know: DC is broken, and our future depends on fixing the rigged system that is shutting down Alaska while politicians feather their own nest,” she said when Peltola won her U.S. House seat in a 2022 special election following the death of longtime Alaska Congressman Don Young, defeating former Governor and one-time Vice-Presidential candidate Sarah Palin. She won a rematch against Palin in the general election months later.

Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, who has worked with both Sullivan and Peltola during her tenure in office, has endorsed Sullivan. “We’ve had a pretty solid team here in the Senate for the past 12 years, so we want to figure out how we’re going to keep in the majority,” MurkowskiOver 40 guns seized after SWAT standoff at Fairbanks home amid alleged union hall attack plotAfter Coast Guard seizes $65K worth of fish eggs, company pushes back on allegations
