At the start of the 2023-2024 school year some districts were forced to borrow buses equipped with air conditioning ."We want the children to have the safest ride possible," Northside ISD Transportation Director Tesilia Soliz said.
"Our new superintendent, Dr John Kraft, came on board with us last year and started the year with us and started to get, you know, some of the the concerned emails from parents, you know, stating, hey, it's the middle of August. We're having these triple digit temperatures in the afternoon, and our kids are really hot on these buses," Soliz said.
" charged me with the task of looking into how many bus routes we had, approximately they were not running with AC buses. And then once that list was determined we found some funding through our bond monies," Soliz said. "We were very strategic, hoping that the buses that we selected weren't too old that they were going to be aging out in the next few years," Soliz said.They are only used on the shortest routes available if other buses are out of commission without impacting the school day.
