The debris fell into the westbound lanes of the Trans Manhattan Expressway just before 8 a.m. on Wednesday.
It happened in the westbound lanes of the Trans-Manhattan Expressway, part of Interstate 95, just before 8 a.m. on Wednesday. One person driving a Subaru was taken to NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital.
They are said to have minor injuries. Port Authority said all westbound lanes leading to the lower level of the George Washington Bridge will remain closed until the investigation is complete and necessary repairs are done.
"We expect them to remain closed through rush hour this evening," officials said. "Vehicles headed to 181st Street exit are being directed to the Jerome Ave and Major Deegan exits. The 181st Street exit is closed at this time. Motorists are encouraged to plan for additional travel time and make alternative travel plans if possible.
