Thursday, May 7, 2026 10:43AMTwo people are now charged after a school resource officer misplaced a gun inside a suburban high school. A search for the weapon led to the arrest of an eighteen year old student, who is due in court Thursday.
Arlington Heights police maintain the school campus is safe. But as of Thursday morning, officials still don't know where a school resources officer's gun is. Juan Pablo Sanchez Jaramillo, 18, and an unnamed 17-year-old have been charged with taking the School Resource Officer's gun Monday at Forest View Education Center. Investigators said Sanchez Jaramillo took the gun from the restroom after school was dismissed and allegedly gave it to a 17-year-old in a neighboring community.
Detectives said they found a tactical flashlight that was attached to the stolen firearm, but didn't find the gun itself. The Arlington Heights Police chief saying, "Our focus and priority is to recover the stolen handgun. The fact that a police officer's duty weapon is somewhere in the immediate region is obviously a concern for public safety.
" They're asking anyone with information to call them while the Arlington Heights police officer is now on leave.
