Tuesday, May 5, 2026 6:50PMSeveral businesses located within a three-block radius in the Fairfax District of Los Angeles were burglarized overnight, frustrating business owners and prompting a search for suspects.
The burglaries happened around 4 a.m. Tuesday on Melrose Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. One of the four businesses that were hit was Milk Bar, an ice cream and desert shop that was left with a shattered glass door. A payment tablet was also seen dangling off the front counter.
Surveillance video from outside of NAILBAY, a nail salon that was also targeted, shows a burglary suspect kicking in the glass door until it breaks and he makes his way inside. Moments later, another camera shows shows the suspect and another person walk down Melrose and turn the corner.
"It's horrible. It's not a great way to be woken up," said Horacio Weschler, the owner of LALA's Argentine Grill, which was also hit.
"... The second I got the call at 6:30 in the morning, I knew something was wrong.
""They don't care if there's an alarm. We leave the registers open. There's no cash inside. It's very clear, you can see it from outside but that doesn't stop them at all.
" This is the fourth time that LALA's has been hit by burglars in a year and a half. This time, the suspects got away with a small amount of cash, checks and tablets used to take orders.
"This is the second time in about a year," said owner Bert Song. "... And speaking with out neighbors, they said welcome to Melrose, it's going to happen every year.
" At least one of the suspects was found in an alleyway nearby and taken into custody. Some of the stolen items including tablets from LALA's were recovered and returned. Once the glass is cleaned up, Weschler plans to board up the door. He says it's going to take several days before a new door arrives.
In the meantime, he says something needs to be done so something like this doesn't happen again.
