HFD went to an apartment fire that was caused by food left on the stove and a single-story house fire, where a firefighter fell through the roof, within hours of each other.
Tuesday, May 5, 2026 12:34PMThe Houston Fire Department had a busy overnight on Monday after battling two fires in the southwest and southeast areas of the city.
The first fire occurred at an apartment complex in southwest Houston, just before 10 p.m., at Bellerive Drive and Marinette Drive. HFD said at least six units of the three-story apartment building were destroyed. Thankfully, no injuries were reported. HFD said it believes the fire was started after someone left food on the stove.
Officials said the Red Cross was notified to help those affected by the fire. A few hours later, HFD said a single-story home was on fire on Glenhurst Drive in southeast Houston after midnight. Firefighters with HFD arrived on scene and reported seeing heavy fire coming from the home. A search was conducted, and officials said there was no one inside.
At one point, a mayday call was issued when one of the firefighters fell 15 feet from the roof into the home. HFD said the firefighter was ventilating the roof at the time. He was treated, but did not go to the hospital, HFD said. Submit a tip or story idea to ABC13 Have a breaking news tip or an idea for a story you think we should cover?
