AIR7 video from above the scene in the 8800 block of Burton Way shows the standoff after a police chase came to an end with a crash around 3 p.m. The windshield of the truck was blocked by a sunshade. Video shows Beverly Hills police and Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies surrounding the pickup truck that was being pursued. Beverly Hills police said they believe the suspect is armed, and he's wanted for the attempted murder of a peace officer.
According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, deputies conducted a traffic stop around 3 a.m. and attempted to detain the suspect, but he fled. That's when he reportedly struck a deputy with his pickup truck, leading to the attempted murder of a peace officer warrant. Hours later, around 1:30 p.m., a license plate reader in Beverly Hills picked up the suspect's plates, according to the department. Beverly Hills police attempted to stop the truck, sparking a short chase.
The chase came to an end when the suspect crashed into a second vehicle on Burton Way around 3 p.m., police said. That's when the hourslong standoff began. The suspect refused to come out and refused to free a hostage from the vehicle for hours, according to police. AIR7 video captured the moment the female hostage finally got out of the vehicle shortly before 11 p.m. The suspect did not surrender, and the standoff continued.
