Investigators say a family visiting relatives in Philadelphia was followed for roughly 15 miles by suspects impersonating police officers before the attempted robbery turned into a shooting.
Friday, April 24, 2026 8:03PMA violent robbery that began in Germantown and stretched onto the Pennsylvania Turnpike ended in gunfire and an ongoing manhunt, according to state police.
Investigators say a family visiting relatives in Philadelphia was followed for roughly 15 miles by suspects impersonating police officers before the attempted robbery turned into a shooting on March 28. Police said the victims, a couple and their 3-year-old child, were traveling back to North Carolina with approximately $49,000 in cash they had been given by a family member for a business investment.
According to Pennsylvania State Police, the suspects trailed the family from the Germantown neighborhood before pursuing them onto the Turnpike. Investigators identified three suspects: 21-year-old Tuften Green and 38-year-old Terrell Adams, who were traveling in a black Chevrolet Suburban, and 51-year-old Roberto Morel, who was in a Honda CR-V. Authorities said the suspects turned on red and blue emergency-style lights on the Suburban when in Tredyffrin Township, and conducted a traffic stop on the family's vehicle.
Dressed in black clothing, with one wearing a hat labeled "police," the suspects approached the minivan and demanded identification. When the victims questioned the suspects' badge numbers and began calling 911, police said Green allegedly opened fire, striking the driver in the chest. Investigators said Green and/or Adams then fired at least five additional rounds into the vehicle as it drove away, narrowly missing the woman and child. After the shooting, the suspects fled the scene.
State police said they were later identified using dash camera footage from an off-duty detective who happened to be nearby, along with license plate reader data. Morel and Adams have since been taken into custody and are facing charges, including first-degree attempted murder and other offenses. Investigators have not publicly said how the suspects knew the family was carrying a large amount of cash.
