Friday, April 24, 2026 12:05AMThe CTA halted service for multiple train lines Thursday evening on the city's North Side due to track conditions and a reported train derailment CTA Red, Yellow and Purple line trains were affected near the Howard Street station in Rogers Park, the CTA said.
Chopper 7 was over the scene, where a CTA train appeared to be derailed. Passengers could be seen being evacuated from two train cars that appeared to be shifted off of the tracks.
"Red Line service has been temporarily suspended between Howard and Thorndale due to track conditions," the CTA said. "As a result, trains are operating only between 95th and Thorndale at this time. " "Service on the Yellow and Purple Line has been temporarily suspended due to track conditions near Howard," the CTA said. The CTA confirmed crews were responding the reported train derailment and were working to restore service.
Shuttle buses were being provided to assist affected passengers on the Red Line between Howard and Thorndale, and on the Yellow and Purple lines from Howard to Skokie and Linden. No further information was immediately available.
