The board is expected to hold a preliminary vote on rent increases in two weeks, followed by a final vote in June.
The Rent Guidelines Board is hearing from landlords and tenant advocates in a meeting Thursday morning in Lower Manhattan. The board is expected to hold a preliminary vote on rent increases in two weeks, followed by a final vote in June.
A specific date for the final vote has not yet been scheduled. Any approved increases would take effect Oct. 1. Mayor Zohran Mamdani pledged to freeze rents for rent-stabilized apartments. Six of the nine members of the Rent Guidelines Board were appointed or reappointed by the mayor.
Last year, the board approved a 3% increase for one-year leases and a 4.5% increase for two-year leases during the Adams administration. Adams had unsuccessfully attempted to change the makeup of the board before those votes. Have a breaking news tip or an idea for a story we should cover?
