Tuesday, April 21, 2026 6:37PM A suspect has been arrested in connection with several burglaries near the Rice Village area that were broken into on Monday morning, according to the Houston Police Department.
Investigators said 24-year-old James Baldwin was detained after surveillance video captured him breaking into one of seven businesses that called in regarding a break-in around 7 a.m. According to court records, Baldwin smashed several doors and windows at at least three establishments, causing $160,000 in damage. All the businesses were located on a stretch of road in the 2500 block of Nottingham Drive.
ABC13 went to the scene of the break-ins on Tuesday and found several with boarded-up windows. Baldwin has been charged with criminal mischief and is expected to appear in court on Tuesday evening, according to records.
Surveillance video shows the suspect taking a bear head that he had on his wall Moran said the suspect broke multiple windows, and eventually, surveillance video shows the suspect walking out of the business with the bear head. 'He started breaking the window from the block,' Moran said. 'I think he end here and then he go back.'
When loyal customers found out about the brazen burglary at Seco's, they told ABC13 they had to take action. 'It was very shocking to realize how close it was, and that it affected one of our favorite places in town, Seco's, so we came by this morning just to give our support and have lunch,' customer Jane Moser said.
