, the 14-year-old girl whose decomposing, dismembered body was found in singer D4vd's Tesla, will give a public statement on Monday. An attorney representing the family said on Friday that they plan to attend D4vd's arraignment if charges are filed, as well as the district attorney's press conference.
The LAPD said the case will be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office on Monday for filing consideration. Following the DA's press conference, the family will make their first public statement through their attorney outside the courthouse."The Rivas Hernandez family is committed to ensuring that Celeste's voice is heard and her memory is honored throughout this process," the attorney, Patrick Steinfeld, said in a statement.D4vd was arrested on Thursday in connection with the killing of Rivas Hernandez. The 21-year-old singer, whose legal name is David Burke, is being held without bail."Let us be clear -- the actual evidence in this case will show that David Burke did not murder Celeste Rivas Hernandez and he was not the cause of her death. There has been no indictment returned by any grand jury in this case and no criminal complaint filed. David has only been detained under suspicion. We will vigorously defend David's innocence," the attorneys said.A memorial of pictures, candles and flowers dedicated to Celeste Rivas Hernandez are in front of her Lake Elsinore home. The memorial was started by next door neighbor Kayleigh Cortez. She added lights spelling the teen's name after getting news that there was an arrest after her murder. "I was sitting down at my table, and I jumped up and I'm like, 'Let's go, let's get this justice,'" Cortez said."It broke my heart. I have a 14-year-old daughter, and they would have gone to high school together," Cortez said."We clicked as neighbors. She'd see me and she'd wave. She was nice, a nice person," Roman said. Roman says she hopes police have arrested the right person, and that the family could move one step closer to justice. "I just kind of try to give them their space," Roman said. "We weren't close anyway, I spoke more to their daughter."The body of Rivas Hernandez, a 14-year-old from Lake Elsinore, was found in September 2025 in the trunk of a towed Tesla registered to D4vd.According to court filings in connection with a Los Angeles County grand jury investigation in connection with Rivas Hernandez's death, her "severely decomposed, dismembered body" was found in the front trunk of D4vd's abandoned, impounded Tesla on Sept. 8, 2025, at a Hollywood tow yard. Her head and torso were found in one bag, and her arms and legs in another, according to the filings from Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman. The Tesla had been at the impound lot for two days after being found abandoned on a Hollywood street, investigators said. The towed vehicle was registered to Burke. Officers had responded to the impound lot "for a foul odor coming from a vehicle," Los Angeles police said. The teen may have been dead for several weeks before her body was discovered, police said. Her remains were found a day after her 15th birthday, according to her death certificate. D4vd's arrest comes after months of compiling evidence, senior officials told ABC News. The grand jury that was empaneled didn't play much of a role in getting to this point, they said. D4vd, who first went viral on TikTok, where he has nearly 4 million followers, had been on his "Withered" world tour when the body was discovered in his vehicle. The last few shows of the tour, including those in San Francisco and Los Angeles, were canceled.Related Topics
